Future Changes in CAP GH2 HbA1c Survey Grading The College of American Pathologists began using accuracy grading based on target values set by the NGSP starting with the 2007A survey. In 2007 the acceptable limit was +/-15% of the target value; this limit was lowered to +/-12% beginning with the 2008A survey. Future reductions have now been announced, the schedule is:

ADA/EASD/IDF Study of Average Glucose and HbA1c Completed The ADA/EASD/IDF study of the relationship between average blood glucose and HbA1c has been completed and the results are to be published in the August issue of Diabetes Care. The manuscript has been published online ahead of print as of June 7 and is available at http://care.diabetesjournals.org/. The study included 507 subjects with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and without diabetes from 10 international centers. Estimated average glucose (eAG) was calculated by combining weighted results from at least 2 days of continuous glucose monitoring performed four times, with seven-point daily self-monitoring of capillary glucose performed at least 3 days per week. The relationship between eAG and HbA1c based on linear regression analysis was: eAG(mg/dl) = 28.7 x HbA1c) - 46.7, r2=0.84. The results of the study support the notion of a close relationship between AG and HbA1c for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. More about the relationship between HbA1c and AG....
